Don’t take too long to think about it.
Fifteen books you’ve read that will stick with you always.
First fifteen in no more than fifteen minutes.
This is hard, mostly because I don't think in terms of "books", but rather stories, and I read a lot of multi-book stories. So, with that in mind...
( Fifteen stories.... )
On the subject of books, here's an anti-rec - I re-read The Time Traveler's Wife over the weekend, because the movie is out soon and I figured I should refresh my memory. I had forgotten how much I hate hate hate that book! God, Henry is so whiney and selfish and a misogynistic bastard and his deterministic view of life is so fucking depressing and basically just an excuse for behaving like a shit! And it's all written in the present tense which, yeah, makes sense given the nature of the story but fanfic has ruined that for me - I see present tense for anything longer than 1000 words and I automatically hit the back button. Novels don't have back buttons. And, oh, god, does it go on and on...by the time I get to the last quarter of the book I'm thinking just die already you whining, pathetic bastard! Most of all I loathe books with such misleading titles. This is not about the time-traveler's wife, it's all about the time traveler. Her life is all about him which pretty much sums up a lot of literature, I know, but there's still no excuse for it. Not only is the wife incapable of having a conversation that's not about men, she can barely have a conversation that's not about the worship of Henry. Pathetic.
And yet...if it's well made (which may be unlikely, as it's Hollywood) and if they've cut out the right parts it should make a wonderful movie. Eric Bana is playing Henry...he's a decent actor. I'll be interested to see if he can make me give a damn about the character.
